The filming of the Malcolm in the Middle revival is set to begin in Vancouver in the next few weeks. Although most of the characters are set to return to play their role, there are also some major changes in characters from the original series.
Frank Muniz is to return to play the lead role and Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are to also return as his parents. According to Variety, Erik Per Sullivan who took the role of the youngest brother Dewey will not be returning to play his role in the sitcom, however, his character will be replaced by Fargo actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

The oldest brothers Francis and Reese who were played by Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield respectively will both be returning to play their roles in the series.
The actor Sullivan, decided to be absent because he decided to explore other career choices aside from acting. Mackenzie gave information regarding Sullivan in a fan site Malcolm France, in the information she released to the fans, she stated that Sullivan was doing very well although he will not be returning to the show. She also added that: “He did Malcolm for seven years, he started at seven, he ended at 14. He wasn’t interested in acting, at all.”
As part of her statement to the fans, Mackenzie told them that Sullivan is now studying in a Prestigious American University and he is doing his graduate work in Victorian literature specifying that Sullivan wanted this to be kept private.
Malcolm in the Middle will only be airing for four episodes on Disney+, however, there has been no announced date for the release of this series.
The official logline for the coming series is "Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
Keeley Karsten has been cast as Leah, Malcolm's daughter. When the series was announced to be coming back to our screens, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television in an interview with Variety, said: “‘Malcolm in the Middle’ is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humour, heart and relatability, Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again".
Some new casts will also be introduced to our screen; Jamie who was introduced in season four of Malcolm in the Middle as Hal and Lois' child will also be acting in the coming episodes and also in the last episodes, Hal and Kelly were expecting a sixth child who will be new to our screen.
In the coming episodes, Kelly is described as the youngest child of Lois and Hal, who gets good grades, is wiser than some of the family and is self-sufficient while Leah on the other hand is the daughter with sarcastic humour, impulsive and high intelligent than Kelly but Leah is more sensitive and emotional than him.
Viewers should be expecting new episodes of the sitcom in the coming weeks and it will be airing on Disney Plus. Linwood Boomer is still returning as the writer and executive producer of the coming episodes
